Bad Memories opens with a damaged childhood, a dead father, and a hometown the protagonist swore never to see again. The protagonist grew up after losing a mother, watching a father fall into drinking, and seeing the family home change around a new relationship. Trouble at school, fights, and encounters with the law followed, until the father's death pushed the protagonist to leave town and build a quieter life elsewhere. Bad Memories begins after that apparent escape, then slowly pulls the player back toward the people, places, and secrets connected to those years.
You can follow the story with either a male or female main character. The routes use separate save naming, adjusted dialogue, missing-image fixes, and gallery support for both perspectives. Jada is one concrete example of the game's personalization: the settings allow you to change how she addresses the protagonist. The game includes heavy themes connected to grief, addiction, family conflict, abuse, and assault.
