Journal Monstrae

Journal Monstrae takes place in a world where humans survive by keeping out of sight of the Monstrae. As a newly chosen Seelie, you leave your home in Gothspell to carry letters between isolated settlements and search for traces of people who have disappeared. It's the chance to see the world you've always wanted, though the world is rarely glad to see you.

The cute, distinctive artwork makes this hostile setting surprisingly inviting. Monstrae designs have plenty of variety, and you can gather materials to craft spirits that join your party. Their strengths and weaknesses give you something to think about when building a team. The writing and world are strong enough to make the courier's journey interesting beyond its adult encounters.

Travelling can wear your party down quickly, and defeat may cost the protagonist levels and stats. Recovering them, replacing lost spirits, and gathering crafting materials can turn into a grind. The menus don't always explain your options well, either, so expect some trial and error with both combat and navigation. Players willing to work through those rough spots will find a memorable little world that really does make them feel like prey.
